Camcor Industries contribution to the James Webb Space Telescope
Meeting the tightest of tolerances, and in difficult to machine materials such as titanium, Camcor recently delivered mission critical components for the Com Dev NIRISS (Near-Infra Red Imager and Slitless Spectrogaph). The NRISS is one of the key scientific instruments that is part of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
The JWST is due to launch in 2018. Unlike the Hubble telescope hovering in earth orbit 357 kms away, the JWST will sit at the Earth-Sun L2 Lagrange point, 1.5 million kms away! With its sensors operating in the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum, it is anticipated that it will be able to see back to the creation of the universe.
